
LAHORE – Tanveer Naqvi, remembered as one of Pakistan’s greatest film lyricists and ghazal poets, composed numerous evergreen songs that continue to resonate across generations.
Born Syed Khurshid Ali, he adopted the pen name Tanveer Naqvi and rose to fame in the golden era of South Asian cinema. His lyrical genius graced many iconic films, including the 1959 classic Koel, whose songs became unforgettable favorites among audiences before and after Partition.

In 1960, his song Raqs Mein Hai Sara Jahan from the film Ayaaz became one of the biggest hits of its time. Naqvi also penned memorable tracks for the film Anarkali, which created a lasting impact on the music industry.
Renowned musicians and celebrated singers immortalized his poetry through their voices, securing his legacy in both literature and film. Tanveer Naqvi passed away on November 1, 1972, in Lahore, but his songs continue to echo in the hearts of music lovers even today.
