Lahore Lions to face Indian kabaddi team in Delhi

LAHORE – World Kabaddi League is set to have a clash of titans on Saturday when Sports Board Punjab’s Lahore Lions kabaddi team will face top ranked team of Khalsa Warriors at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.


It will be Lahore Lions' fourth match in the grand World Kabaddi League tournament, said the information made available. They won their two matches in England with clear margin. In their opening match in England, Lahore Lions beat Canada's Vancouver Lions by 74-61 in London on August 10. Then on August 16, they outplayed Royal Kings USA by 62-50 convincingly at LG Arena Birmingham.


The Lahore boys then continued their winning run in India toppling Punjab Thunder by 64-44 on August 24 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The Man of the Match awards in all three matches were also taken by Pakistan's Shafiq Chishti and Akmal Shahzad Dogar.


Chishti, 24, demonstrated spectacular performance and was adjudged Man of the Match in both matches in England. He grabbed 21 points against Canada's Vancouver Lions and 19 against Royal Kings USA while Dogar, who made 19 successful raids against Punjab Thunder, was declared Best Raider of the encounter.


It is expected that a large number of crowd will throng the stadium for the mouth-watering clash. The Kabaddi lovers around the globe are terming the match as ‘final’ before title clash. Both Khalsa Warriors and Lahore Lions teams topped the points table with six points each followed by United Singhs and Yo Yo Tigers with four points apiece. Punjab Thunder and Royal Kings USA have so far grabbed two points while Canada’s Vancouver Lions and California Eagles have yet to score a point in the mega event.


In a statement, State Bank Director General Usman Anwar expressed the optimism that Lahore Lions team will continue its superb form against their strong opponents. “Our boys are well prepared and quite determined ahead of tough clash. Certainly they will be able to keep their unbeaten record intact in India,” he added.


Usman further said that Pakistan team was in excellent form and definitely they will put up their best show in one of the toughest match of the tournament. “After recording a victory against Khalsa Warriors, the Lahore team will push their rivals to second spot on the points table,” he hoped.
