Shoaib Akhtar weds in low-key event

ISLAMABAD: Former international cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has tied the knot with a 20-year-old girl from Haripur. The wedding was a secret affair with only close family members attending the gathering. According to the media reports, the Nikkah was solemnized after Isha prayers on June 23 in Mohalla Ramzani. There were not more than 10 people. It is reported that Shoaib’s family met Mushtaq Khan, a businessman from Haripur while on Hajj last year, and asked Mushtaq’s wife for help in finding a suitable match for their 39-year-old son. Reportedly, Akhtar’s wife Rubab was born in 1994 and has little interest in cricket. She appeared in intermediate exams conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Abbottabad last month. On June 7, a report had emerged that the man popularly known as the Rawalpindi Express, was set to marry a teenage girl from the district of Haripur, but the cricketer and other media outlets had denied the claim. Shoaib even rebutted it on his Twitter account.
Qadir likes the way Akhtar married: Meanwhile, former Pakistan Test leg spinner Abdul Qadir has congratulated Shoaib on tying the knot said he liked the way the ex-pacer conducted his Nikkah with simplicity. “The best way to conduct a wedding is the Islamic way which is with simplicity. I wish Shoiab and his wife the very best and hope their marriage brings joy and happiness to their lives,” he said. Qadir said he hoped that Shoaib’s marriage will change in his attitude and life.
