LAHORE – Lahore City Cricket Association president Khawaja Nadeem Ahmad said on Tuesday that he would introduce reforms to re-launch collective efforts for the revival of cricket.
“After my election for the second successive term, I fell myself under heavy load of responsibility to do more for the betterment of Lahore cricket which suffered a lot during 15-month under the interim setup ,” he told APP after his election at Gadaffi stadium
Nadeem and Mian Mubeen were elected unopposed as president and treasurer after their rivals candidates withdrew their nomination papers. The election for the slot of secretary LCCA will be held soon.
Nadeem called upon the elected office bearers of all the three zones to re-launch collective efforts for re-starting the journey where it was halted when LCCA was put under ad-hoc setup and interim committees were formed to run it.
“We have witnessed a downfall of cricket in Lahore during past one year as the interim committees failed to do the needful job for club cricket and all the resources of the LCCA were spent on non cricket activities which put Lahore's cricket at the brink of disaster.”
The newly elected President said that he would soon unveil an ambitious activity plan for the revival of club cricket and a number of new cricket tournaments will be introduced besides re-starting cricket league.
“During our previous tenure we generated a lot of cricket activity and engaged affiliated clubs of three zone in regular cricket events and received all out financial support from private business and we will be aiming the same because by organising sufficient cricket activities we will be able to revive club cricket.”
He said due to lack of cricket activities under the interim setup a big gap was created and fresh efforts and time are need to bridge in the gap to put Lahore's cricket back on the road of progress.
“First we need to put our house in order and the we will introduce reforms and steps to address various problems and issues related to Lahore’s cricket” he said adding “ We will be forming various committees comprising devoted club organsers for the overall development of the game at grass root level ,”said Nadeem, himself a former first class cricketer .
He said he would also seek the patronage of Pakistan Cricket Board to getting financial assistance for LCCA for the improvement of the LCCA pavilion and the ground
“In the past PCB promised us that it would help in changing the existing LCCA pavilion and allied facilities into a most modern cricket centre and we will forwarding our case to the present regime of the PCB ,”he said adding Punjab Government has also already promised us for granting funds for installing lights at LCCA ground.
