PESHAWAR – Mardan and Bannu advanced to the next round after registering victories against their respective rivals in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Inter-Region Cricket Championship, which got under way here at the Jinnah College for Women University of Peshawar on Wednesday.
Jinnah College for Women University Principal Professor Dr Nilofar Zeb was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the championship. Organising Secretary Rahim Bibi, Gul Nar, two umpires international cricketer Salma Faiz and Samreen, players and large number of spectators were also present.
Mardan won the toss and elected to bat against Hazara Region first by setting up 89 runs with Renoon 33 including four boundaries, Haseena 17 and Nadra 19 runs were the leading runs contributors. For Hazara Sumaira, Maria and Kenza took one wicket each. In reply, Hazara bundled out in last over. Hazara needed 24 runs in the last two overs but thanks to Nadra who grabbed three wickets and completed her hat-trick in her last over.
Thus Hazara bowled out for 81 runs. For Hazara Farukh hit a cracking 35 runs including two sixes and four boundaries, Aysha 17 and Sumaira made not out 25 runs including four boundaries and one six. Thus Mardan won the match by 7 runs. In the second match Bannu defeated Malakand by 45 runs. Bannu skipper Naila won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 99 runs target in the 20 overs.
Left hand batter Roheena hammered 46 runs including seven boundaries and one six, Zaiba smashed not out 43 runs and thus Bannu chased the target for loss of no wicket after playing 17.3 overs. Teams from Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Mardan, Hazara, Malakand and host Peshawar are taking part in teh Championship.
