PHF in urgent need of funds for senior and junior hockey squads

LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) needs urgent release of funds to undertake the European tour and participate in the Incheon Asian Games. “The PHF badly needs funding to prepare the national senior and junior teams and for domestic circuit,” PHF secretary general Rana Mujahid Ali said on Friday. The PHF has prepared a plan for a short tour to Europe in build-up for the Incheon Asian Games. He said a request for a grant of Rs.500 million was submitted to Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and other sports authorities for the release of funds. “We urgently need funding for the senior team because their European tour and Asian Games are only weeks away,” added the PHF official. He said Pakistan teams needed international exposure to make them strong for their international assignments and the Asian Games which was their first target. Mujahid said besides senior team’s tour to Europe and participation in the Asian Games, Pakistan would also feature in the Champions Trophy in India and the junior team would take part in Sultan Johar Cup in Malaysia. “It is need of the hour to provide funds to the national sport to prepare all domestic, international plans, training camps, umpires and holding domestic events,” he maintained.
