KARACHI: Asian junior number two Muhammad Majid Ali of Punjab won the Jubilee Insurance 6th National Junior Under-21 Snooker Championship in style when he defeated Muhammad Haris Nadeem 6-1 in one-sided final at Hotel Movenpick Arcade here on Thursday. Fast emerging Majid demonstrated superb cue control, safety and tactical play to rout Sindh junior champion Haris without facing any challenge. Majid got off to sterling start by blanking Haris 95-0 in the opening frame. But Haris pulled off the next frame 85-58 which created an impression that it will be tough finale for Majid. But he quickly recovered to grab the third frame smartly and a break of 55 in the fourth frame gave Majid a 3-1 lead.
Haris seemed to be under pressure and made a number of mistakes that went in favour of Majid who dipped the multicolored ball in different pockets with ease. After winning the fifth frame 83-1, Majid wrapped up the next two frames to win the title. By reaching the final, Majid and Haris have earned the right to represent Pakistan in the Asian Under-21 Snooker Championship to be held in Chandigarh, India in April this year.
Majid got the winner’s trophy and Rs.40,000 prize money while Haris collected the runner-up trophy and Rs.20,000.
