LAHORE: A meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) governing council, with chairman Zaka Ashraf in chair, was held at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday. And members of the governing council expressed confidence in the reinstated Ashraf. The governing council, besides appreciating verdict of the Islamabad High Court, also thanked patron of the PCB for his support. The members also constituted a committee comprising governing council members namely Mirza Arshad, Rafiq Bughio, Masood Anwar and PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed to review decisions taken in the time period the governing council could not assemble due to litigation.
A media report regarding future International Cricket Council (ICC) revenues and the proposed changes to the structure of ICC management also came under discussion with members agreeing that the PCB chairman should meet the patron of the PCB (Prime Minister) to seek his support and guidance. Besides, the governing council discussed routine matters relating to the affairs of the PCB and expressed their confidence in PCB chairman regarding proper representation in the upcoming meeting of the ICC.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that though the issue of appointment of the head coach didn’t come under discussion in the said meeting, the PCB has decided to publish advertisement for the posts of head coach, batting and bowling coaches. It is also expected that the same committee comprising Intikhab Alam and Zaheer Abbas which picked up incumbent coach Dav Whatmore and other technical staff will select new officials for the said posts.
It is pertinent to mention that Whatmore’s two-year tenure will end in February (next month). Also, name of new chief selector along with new members of the selection committee will be announced most probably on Jan 31 with Aamir Sohail and Mohammad Ilyas being key runners for the post of the chief selector. In another development, the PCB has relieved its lawyer Taffazul Hussain Rizvi with sources claiming that the PCB asked Taffazul to discuss some legal matters but he was not immediately available. Mohammad Rafiq Bughio, Mansoor Hamid Anwar, Mohammad Haroon Rasheed, Commodore Mirza Arshad Hussain, Dr Jawad Sajid Khan, Imtiaz Ahmad and Wajahatullah Wasti attended the meeting among others.
