LAHORE – The Lahore Lions of the Punjab Sports Board will start the second leg matches of the World Kabaddi League on August 23 in India.
The team, which is in good form, will depart for India via Wagha border on Friday (August 22). Lahore Lions media manager Abdur Rauf Roofi told journalists here that the Punjab Thunder will be the first opponents of the Lahore Lions at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
Then the Lahore team will lock horns with the Khalsa Warriors of Akshay Kumar – the Indian filmstar – at the same venue on August 30. So far, the Lahore Lions appeared in two matches in the World Kabaddi League and clinched both the encounters with clear margin.
After two victories, they topped points table along with the Khalsa Warriors with four points each. Royal Kings USA, Punjab Thunder, United Singhs and Yo Yo Tigers have grabbed two points each while California Eagles and Vancouver Lions have yet to open their account in the points table.
In their opening match, the Lahore Lions beat Canada’s Vancouver Lions by 74-61 in London on August 10. Then on August 16, they outplayed Royal Kings USA by 62-50 convincingly at the LG Arena Birmingham. Roofi said that the entire team out up dazzling performance in England especially raider Shafiq Chishti was in astonishing form.
Chishti demonstrated impressive performance and was declared ‘player of the match’ in both the clashes, he added. The touring Lahore Lions kabaddi team is: Babar Waseem Gujjar (captain), Lala Ubaidullah, Shafiq Chishti, Shahzad Dogar, Rana Naeem, Khalid Mehar, Shabbir Butt, Rehman Ishtiaq alias Heera Butt, Saifullah, M Ramzan, Ali Lambi Pindiya, Matloob Ali, Mohsin Wahla, Arshad Mehmood, Waqas Raheem, Naeem Tahir Sindhu and Aslam Dogar.
