Pakistani Team needs to tackle Jayawardene: Inzamam

ISLAMABAD - Former Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that Pakistan will need to keep a check on Mahela Jayawardene's scoring in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

Talking to a private news channel, former batting great Inzamam said that team Pakistan have to ensure that opponent's top batsmen, particularly Jayawardene, should not be allowed to get many runs.

He said that Sri Lanka is one of the best cricket team in the world right now and Pakistan has to stop it scoring big numbers.

He said that Pakistan must perform up to the mark in all three departments; batting, bowling and fielding.

The cricket legend added that spin bowling is one of the strengths of our team and using it at the right time will be the test of the skipper on Sri Lankan pitches.

"Our spinners have traditionally done well in Sri Lanka while pace bowling is also doing so well," said Inzamam.

"It is going to be a tough series because Sri Lanka have been playing lot of Tests and other cricket while Pakistan team has not been in the field for last two months ", he said.

Pakistan last won a Test series in Sri Lanka in 2006. That was also the last time they won a Test series against Sri Lanka.
