Pakistan won four medals - three-silver and one bronze - to claim 23rd position in the prestigious 70-nation sports extravaganza. A 63-member Pakistan contingent participated in the Games in the disciplines of boxing, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. Pakistan won one silver in boxing, one silver in judo and one silver and one bronze medal in wrestling.
On Monday, Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada said that Pakistan sports were in standstill during the last two years due to a parallel Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). “No effective training could not be organised for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. But despite of these problems, Pakistan athletes did their best,” he added. Pirzada and the IPC Secretary Mohammad Ejaz Chaudhry appreciated the performance of medal winners and other athletes for their satisfactory performance in ‘such difficult circumstances’. The IPC Ministry will host a reception in honour of the Pakistan contingent on August 8 (Friday) at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.
