ISLAMABAD: Pakistan boxer Muhammad Waseem on Saturday lost the final match of flyweight 52kg boxing in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and ended up winning a silver medal for the country. He was defeated by Australia’s Andrew Moloney in the final bout. The national hero had the upper hand over his Australian opponent in the first two rounds, but could not keep it up in the final round, thereby losing and attaining the silver.
Waseem had managed to knock-out his opponent from Ghana in the semi-final round on August 1 to make it to the finals. The silver takes Pakistan’s medals tally at the Games to four including three silver and one bronze. England are leading the Commonwealth Games in terms of medals with 50 gold, 52 silvers and 46 bronze medal while Australia are following with 42 gold, 40 silver and 44 bronze medals. Canada’s present standing is third with 30 gold, 14 silver and 31 bronze medals.
