LAHORE: The first of a series of Pro Am Golf Championships held at the Lahore Defence Raya Golf Course turned out to be a battle amongst the two man pairs comprising one golf professional and one seasoned amateur golfer. Out of the forty accomplished pairs that entered the competition, the pair of Faisal Sayid and Talat Ijaz combined exceedingly well to emerge as top performers of this Pro Am event. Faisal Sayid was the amateur in this two-man team, yet he dominated the run of play and his excellence in putting turned the winning tide his way. His shots off the tees were superb and this was backed by excellence on the greens where he putted like a champion. By virtue of five birdies on holes 2, 7, 12, 13 and 18, this pair ended up with a winning score of 67, five under par.
Out of the 39 other contesting pairs, the pair of Shahid Javed Khan (golf pro) and Sardar Murad (amateur) backed up each others efforts to aggregate a score of 69, three under par. They had to be content with the runners-up slot and lost to the winning pair of Faisal and Talat by two strokes. The combination of Mohammad Imran (pro) and Shahid Siddique (amateur) came third with a score of 72.
The remaining combinations also put up a good display of golfing skills, although their scores were not good enough to bring them in the front line positions. On this occasion Khawaja Imran Zubair stated that such competitions can be a big boost for golf and he promised to sponsor such events on a regular basis.
