KARACHI: A large number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters gathered today at Insaf House at Shahrah-e-Faisal to stage a sit-in in Karachi.
PTI Chief Imran Khan had announced that the party would start staging protest demonstrations in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Karachi from Saturday onwards.
The demonstration was held to the show solidarity with the party’s Islamabad sit-in. Charged party workers chanted the slogans of ‘Go Nawaz Go’. Traffic remained suspended on the Shahrah-e-Faisal as both the tracks of Shahrah-e-Faisal had been blocked by participants of the sit-in. Large TV screen were installed at the venue to live telecast the Islamabad sit-in speeches. PTI rallies started from Clifton Teen Talwar and ended at Nursery Shahrah-e-Faisal. Talking to media, Additional IG Ghulam Qadir Thebo said that the police would provide complete security and alternate route to the PTI rally. He said, “Shahrah-e-Faisal would not be closed, as it was the main route of the metropolis.”
“We will stage mega protest demonstrations in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Karachi tomorrow (Saturday)”, party leader Imran Khan told his workers staging anti-government sit-in in front of Parliament House. Laying out their protest plans, the PTI said in addition to Shahrah-e-Faisal Karachi, rallies and sit-ins would be staged in Faisalabad’s Zila Council Chowk, Multan’s Nawan Shehr Chowk, and Lahore to start with.
