‘Country needs to save indigenous knowledge’


KARACHI: Pakistan has great indigenous knowledge, the country needs to save its indigenous knowledge while Patent Protection for research and development can play vital role in this regard. Dr Akram Shaikh Director General Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) at an inaugural ceremony of the one-day workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Protection the Guidelines for Researchers and Industry’ via videoconference at NED University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday welcomed resource persons from IPR and sponsors from different industries and researchers and scientist. PASTIC and Faculty of Civil Engineering NED University of Engineering and Technology organized the event. Prof Dr Afzal Haque Vice Chancellor NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi said the patent protection was technical important for industries and R& D organisations. Patent is also important for economic growth for generate funds through research innovation and creating jobs through IPR.  Representatives from the industries, technologist, scientist and researchers were included among the audience. He said Indigenous knowledge (IK) was based on power of innovation and situation needs to produce promotion and filling of patent. He said the main objective of the workshop was to create awareness among scientific researchers and industrial community about the importance of Intellectual property, especially patent as a tool for economic growth and wealth creation. Workshop would generate a better understanding of the enormous potential of IP system and its role and patent protection for research in creating a better future for us all.
