Three more killed in city as violence continues

KARACHI: Three persons were killed and one other injured in separate incidents of violence in the city on Saturday.An unidentified man, aged 20, was shot dead by unknown assailants beneath Nipa Bridge. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.Two bullet-riddled bodies of unidentified men, aged 22 and 30, were recovered near Mono-technical Institute in Korangi No 4. The bodies were taken to JPMC for post-mortem. A man named Sameer, 30, was seriously injured due to bullets fired on him by unidentified gunmen near Brookes Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area. He was rushed to JPMC for medical treatment. On the other hand, a blast took place outside the office of a private courier company at Raza Square near Malir Courts in the city, in the wee hours of Saturday; however, no casualties were reported.A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) official said that one-kilogramme explosive was used in the blast. He said that the blast was carried out via a time device and the explosives material was planted outside the office.It may be noted here that it was the third incident in which the same courier company was targeted in last two months.Meanwhile, in the ongoing Karachi operation at least 40 suspects including 15 foreign terrorists were arrested as the city police conducted a raid in Malir on Saturday, officials said. Malir SSP Rao Anwar said that the suspects have been taken to an undisclosed location, While speaking to media, SSP expressed satisfaction that the police department is doing fabulous job.He said that the operation, which started in September last year, has been termed successful by both the government and law enforcement agencies but the recent brazen attack on the city’s international airport on June 8 raised many questions about the success of the operation.The security agencies were currently focusing on tackling the issue of ‘terrorism’ to avoid further backlash of the military operation in Waziristan.Moreover, the city police have finalized a contingency plan for the month of Ramazan Kareem.The plan included the security of 3,427 mosques, 257 imambargahs, 1007 seminaries, 431 congregations of taraveeh prayer and 272 shopping centres. More than 400 police mobile vans and motorcycles would also take part in patrolling. 700 national guards would also be deployed for security duties. Police pickets, watchtowers and temporary control rooms are being established in different market areas and public places. The bomb disposal squad would technically sweep parking lots of markets and public places. A special police flag march would also be held in the holy month.Two newborns were found dead in the city on Saturday.According to Edhi rescue source, a newborn baby was found dead from a garbage dump in Saleh Muhammad Goth. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities and later buried by Edhi volunteers in Edhi Home graveyard.Separately, according to Chhipa rescue sources, a newborn was found dead from a trash dump in Shah Faisal Colony No-3. The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities and later buried by Chhipa volunteers at Mewa Shah Graveyard. Police said that no one has claimed the bodies.
