‘Action against officers failing to achieve wheat procurement target’


KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said action was being taken against those officers who have failed to achieve wheat procurement target. In this connection district food controller Mirpurkhas Ali Muhammad Talpur has been suspended over his poor performance. Talking to various delegations on Tuesday he said Sindh Food Department had procured 1.14 million tonnes wheat so far while a record procurement had been made from Sukkur division, where 5 million wheat bags were procured in the history of province. Show cause notices have been issued to the officers of six districts over their poor performance, there is no place in food department for those who fail to show efficiency, he remarked. He said the government was fully committed to provide relief to the masses and steps taken against hoarders had brought good result and the wheat was easily available in the province. Dahar said ban on inter province movement of wheat and flour and then imposition of Section 144 on inter-district movement of wheat has benefited the growers. Strict steps have been taken against corruption, which made the department to enable to get its target, and the target of 1.3 million tonnes wheat would be achieved very soon, he concluded.
