KARACHI: A minor girl was killed and her little brother injured in a hand grenade attack at a bungalow in PECHS Society on Friday.
According to SHO Ferozabad police station, Safdar Mashwani, the incident occurred in the morning when unidentified armed motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at the bungalow along Khalid Bin Waleed Road in PECHS, Block 3.
The blast left two children injured, who were identified as Uzma, 6, and Aman, 4, daughter and son of Abdullah. The girl later succumbed to her injuries on her way to a hospital.
The body and injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Mashwani said the reason behind the attack was not known as the owner of the bungalow was living abroad and only the housekeeper, Abdullah and his children were present at the time of the attack. He said the blast damaged windowpanes of nearby houses and spread panic in the area.
While no FIR could be registered till filing of this report, the SHO said the investigation was underway to identify culprits behind the attack.
In a separate incident, at least five men were shot dead by unidentified armed men, who barged into a compound in Waja Wali Muhammad Village, Pak Colony, and resorted to indiscriminate firing.
Police rushed to the spot and discovered five dead bodies, that were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
The victims were identified at the hospital as Gulzar, 19, son of Manzoor,Shehzad, 22, son of Ali, Sajid, 26, son of Daad Muhammad, Rizwan, 18, son of Abdul Razzaq and Aamir, 22, son of Kareem.
According to SHO Pak Colony Bilal Raza, victim Aamir was a resident of Lyari and Rizwan lived in Manghopir, while Shahzad, Gulzar and Sajid lived in Old Golimar area.
The SHO further revealed that around seven cases were registered against Shahzad, and police wanted Sajid in around four criminal cases.
"All the victims worked for Sajid Baloch, and were involved in gang war against Baba Ladla group along with Aziz Baloch," informed Raza, adding that Sajid Baloch was a brother in law of Rehman aka Dakait.
As per procedure, all the bodies were handed over to the heirs after completing medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, unknown armed men shot dead a person and injured another.
Police said two men belonging to Bela, Lasbela reached Karachi for medical treatment of a member of their family, where unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire at them, leaving one dead and injuring another. The assailants managed to escape from the scene. Investigations on the matter are ongoing.
The bodies were moved to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
