Traffic jams on University Road irk citizens

KARACHI: Frequent traffic jams on the University Road have irked citizens that waste time and fuel especially during rush hours.
The section of the University Road from Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan Campus to Masjid Baitul Mukkaram is in a dilapidated condition and with ditches and potholes that causes traffic jams. Traffic runs undisciplined in this section and motorists and bikers freely use roads and u-turns in the wrong way even in the presence of traffic police.
Another section of this road in front of the Safari Park has also developed potholes due to the use of substandard material and resulting in slower flow of traffic. It is worth noting that the recently constructed road had cracked and formed potholes soon after its inauguration.
The worst section of the University Road is from the Staff Gate of Karachi University up to Safoora Goth as this section of the busy road is almost in non-motor shape due to ditches and potholes.
Gutter water freely flows at many points of this road due to broken lines. Truckloads of garbage, filth and debris are thrown on the roadside in front of the Karachi University on the open land owned by Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) giving the vicinity of this premier university a sorry look; however, Gulshan Iqbal Town, Karachi University, KWSB and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are least concerned to remove these hills of debris and filth and give the vicinity a respectable look. The road from Staff Gate of Karachi University up to Safoora Goth, especially its Mosmiyat Chowrangi, needs urgent reconstruction to facilitate citizens.
The citizens have requested the Sindh governor, chief minister, chief secretary, minister local government, KMC and other concerned authorities to take notice of the poor condition of the University Road and take steps for its urgent reconstruction and repair to end frequent traffic jams on this busy artery.
