Pakistan needs competent graduates: CIMA director

KARACHI: Competent graduates are what Pakistan needs at the moment. It was our responsibility to transform capabilities into global abilities.A professional qualification is a reality check with wider apprehension and competency for academic knowledge. Bradley Emerson, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) regional Director Middle East, South Asia and North Africa has been working with CIMA for the past 7 years. Talking to Daily Times, Emerson said academic education widens your thinking whereas a professional education checks your applied knowledge. He emphasised competency a vital instrument in getting desire results in respective fields. CIMA professionals are equipped to evaluate and manage risk, particularly in the context of governance, decision-making and incentive policies, he said.CIMA qualified professionals can support any ones business by implementing smarter working practices while maximising profit, as well as addressing business risks that threaten growth and profitability. The real practice in finance world involves decision-making, commercial insight and judgment. As a professional I considered to transfer what I have in the store so it was the youth and particularly those who are keen to become professionals in related fields and to take up challenges of 21st century. My work is all about providing innovative and exciting learning opportunities to people with specific focus to connect them with peers and experts globally.Memorising is not the tool CIMA prefers, the student has to be able to apply and test his or her learning skills in the market. This is what makes CIMA different and this is what companies are looking for. The students are trained in such a way that whatever task their companies will give them, they will figure out a way to get it done with the help of their learned skills, he added. A company’s interest in hiring the graduate is check his or her application knowledge to see if he or she can transfer the knowledge into action and add value to the business.I would like to say the future is the outcome of the choices, which you make in the present. Make a sensible choice to become what you want to be in the world. Education will shape your mind and future. The world has a shortage of talent not graduates. We have to consciously and purposefully make our graduates professionally qualified.  He said with a large number of graduates every year, the Pakistan market has a huge potential but the right kind of opportunity has yet to be unleashed. Bradley Emerson MBA, Fellow of Institute of Bankers, Advance Diploma in Management Accounting (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) has been a banker prior to joining CIMA in May 2007. Bradley received the Achievers Award in 2004 from the PIM, in recognition of outstanding achievements.
