CM for uninterrupted power, water supply during Ramazan

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has directed the management of K-Electric and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply to Karachi during Ramazan and looming monsoon season besides to exempt Mazar-e-Quaid from load shedding forever. He directed two managements concerned to get their technical bottlenecks straight if any and resolved it before Ramazan. People should not suffer agony because of their official proceedings or confrontation. Presiding over the meeting with management of K-electric he said he was frequently receiving complaints from industrialists, businessmen and professional communities and common man. He said though supply of electricity was not our responsibility or under our domain but people by holding responsible us became annoyed from Sindh government and creating problems of law and order for local administration. Similarly water supply and sewerage system was being badly affected because of load shedding and people went on protest, as such for efficient water supply and sewerage system uninterrupted electric supply was very much essential. Shortage of energy or load shedding is giving birth to many socio-economic problems and we are talking about this matter in the meetings of Council of Common Interest (CCI) time and again. He said we understand K-Electric might have some administrative and technical problems but Sindh government was ready not only to extend its full administrative support but also to help them to resolve their problems pertaining to federal government with the support of Prime Minister. We are financially strengthening the KWSB and have restored its subsidy only in the head of electric payment and asked the management of K-Electric to reconsider the request of KWSB for its new connections of water supply pumping machines at Gulshan-e-Iqbal and other places to facilitate the citizens at large. He said differences in organisational transaction were routine work and they were being resolved on routine but people should not suffer because of the departmental confrontation. People deserve at least uninterrupted basic facilities such as supply of electricity and water. He directed the K- Electric managements to evolve such a mechanism and strategy so there should be no load shedding during Ramazan especially at the time of Sehri, Iftar and prayer timings. Special assistant to CM Waqar Mehdi, provincial Secretary Energy Agha Wasif, incharge Secretary to CM Shafique Mahesar, additional Commissioner Karachi Aslam Khoso, CDO SM Taha and other officers attended the meeting. CEO K-electric Nayar Hussain said recently their 220 kilovatts electric line was damaged because of seepages that created problem. He said work for restoration of this line was in progress and in the meantime the areas concerned were being provided electricity from other feeders. Besides, his management was also experiencing shortfall of 80 megawatts due to increase in demand. However he assured the meeting full electric supply would be ensured without any interruption and there would be no load shedding especially at the Sehri and Iftar timings. However he stressed for the clearance of outstanding dues against KWSB.
