SHC wants to know mechanism of Karachi operation

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday once again sought report from city incharge operation on the mechanism under which the operation was being carried out by law enforcers in the city. A division bench of SHC Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh directed the counsel for Rangers to place on record relevant notification to show that the paramilitary forces are not under statutory obligation to make an entry about arrests made by them at a relevant police station. The court was hearing a petition filed by Fakhruddin who sought recovery of his son Arshad who has been missing since March 2013. Counsel for the petitioner said that the LEAs took away the alleged detainee in presence of witnesses on March 10, 2013 from Usmanabad and since then there has been no clue. He told the judges that an FIR was registered at the Garden Police Station but the police had made no progress to trace him. The bench while observing that a number of petitions, pertaining to missing men allegedly picked up during ongoing operations was pending since long but the LEAs except submitting comments had made no progress in recovering missing men. Therefore, the court directed city incharge operation to place on record the comprehensive report regarding missing men allegedly picked up during the operation and spell out the mechanism and manner in which an operation is being carried out by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
