Congo virus awareness drive kicked off

KARACHI: District Central Deputy Commissioner Dr Saifur Rehamn on Monday began an awareness campaign against Congo-virus throughout the district after the death of a butcher from Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). He informed this during a meeting held at Deputy Commissioner’s District Central office in Karachi. The meeting was attended by KMC Senior Director Veterinary Mehmood Haroon, Dr Muhammad Azam, Dr Laeeq Anwar, Dr Mazhar, Dr M Soomar, Dr Qamar Zaman and Iqbal Khan. Dr Rehman said that an administration had started comprehensive awareness drive across the district about Congo-virus and stressed the need of adopting precautionary measures for disease prevention. He said, “Isolation wards should be established in public healthcares, where the suspected Congo-virus affected patients be kept.” The health experts said that Congo-virus spread through animal ticks and the affected patients should be kept in intensive care unit. They advised people to use anti-tick lotion and properly cover their bodies to prevent Congo-virus.
