Sindh Assembly to witness heated discussion today

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly is likely to witness a heated discussion session on the issue of Tharparkar drought when it will meet today (Tuesday).
The session started around at 11:30am against the scheduled time of 10am with Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in the chair on Monday. During the Sindh Assembly session, members strongly condemned the killings of Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM) leader and a worker in Naushehro Feroz and offered Fateha. They demanded to the government to investigate into incident. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon assured the provincial legislature those who were involved in the killing of JSQM leaders would be brought to justice.
Muttahida Quami Movement lawmaker Zubair Ahmed presented adjournment motion on the famine of Tharparkar. Other opposition parties also demanded to bring Tharparkar issue on debate table. Ruling party objected on the content of motion. However Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said a conspiracy was hatched to defame government of Sindh, which he would foil on (today’s) session of Sindh assembly. He said he would tell the house who was helping the people of Tharparkar and who was busy in hatching the conspiracies.
Speaker adjourned the house to meet on Tuesday at 10am before giving the ruling to allocate the two-hour session for the debate on Tharparkar. Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon has said Sindh government did not receive even a single rupee from aid announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the drought-hit Thar. Talking to journalists outside Sindh Assembly before and after the house’s session, he said, “As you know Nawaz Sharif announced a Rs 1 billion relief package for the famine-stricken Thar during his visit to the area, but till today not a single rupee has been received from federal government. I salute to the media who did not raise this issue,” said minister.
He said there was a difference between announcing something in meeting and doing practical. Sharjeel said he respected the media, but complained media did not take our point of view seriously. He said during meeting in Mithi, PM compared Cholistan and Tharparkar. However, according to minister there was vast difference between population of Cholistan and Tharparkar. “Population of Thar is scattered. I want to tell you in Cholistan ninety percent of the population have migrated, whereas in Tharparkar only twenty percent of the population migrated.
Tharparkar drought is a natural disaster. Tharparkar faces drought after every two to three years. He expressed grief over the loss of precious lives of children in Thar but retrieved majority of children’s deaths was result of premature birth. He said inquiry was being conducted regarding the mishandling of distribution of wheat in Thar.
Sharjeel Memon said Sindh government would file review petition regarding ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the issue of delimitations in Sindh.
MQM: When asked about possible inclusion of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in the Sindh government, minister said MQM had been our coalition partner, but neither he can deny nor confirm about reports. However he confirmed about talks between PPP and MQM on ‘various issues’.
Karachi targeted operation: Sindh information minister praised Police and Rangers` efforts in maintaining the law and order situation in Karachi said there was decline in crime because of their efforts. He made it clear on going targeted operation against the miscreants would be continued. 
JSQM leaders` murder: Responding to another question, he condemned the incident regarding assassination of JSQM leaders Maqsood Qureshi and his colleague Salman Wadho. Memon said double murder was conspiracy to disturb the law and order situation in Sindh.
