SHC tells DSP to recover illegally detailed citizen

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday ordered DSP Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) to recover a citizen, allegedly kept in illegal confinement by officials of KIA police station, and ensure arrest of culprits involved in illegal act. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, who headed a division bench, issued these directives while hearing a petition filed by Irshad Mai, who moved the court for recovery of her son Muhammad Irfan, taken captive by KIA police. The woman petitioner alleged that ASI Ahmed Bux posted at KIA police station broke into her house along with other persons and took away his son, ornaments and RS30000 cash. She said that when she went to KIA police station to inquire whereabouts of her son, she was informed that her son was booked in a rape case and could not be released. She requested court to order police officials to release her son as he was kept in illegal detention. However, KIA police officials rejected the allegations of petitioner and informed judges that a case regarding missing of petitioners son was registered on her complaint. Two-judge bench while observing that since serious allegations were leveled against police officials, DSP Rahim Shah was directed to ensure proper investigation into the allegations, arrest of culprits and recovery of captive. He was directed to submit a report by May 28.
