SHC allows construction of high-rise building

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed real estate Bahria Town to carry out construction on a high-rise building ‘Opal 225’ in accordance with approved plan. Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui who headed a single bench of SHC was seized with hearing of a lawsuit filed by Bahria Town seeking an injunction against the defendant Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC). The bench disposed of the lawsuit with ruling in case any violation is found the CBC would be at liberty to take action in accordance with law. The counsel for the plaintiff Mohammad Umar Lakhani said Zardari Group was given approval for the construction of a high-rise by the CBC on plot no 22 on Raja Gazanfar Ali Khan Road. Both the Bahria Town and Zardari Group entered a joint venture agreement in order to carry out construction on the high-rise in accordance with the approval, he added. The counsel said since the construction work on the project was underway, the CBC issued two notices on different dates, stating construction was being carried out in violation of the relevant laws and approved plan. It also threatened to stop the construction work. The counsel claimed construction was being carried out strictly in accordance with the approved plan and asked the court to restrain the cantonment board from taking any action in pursuance of its notices.
