Khurshid Shah sees democracy at peril

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party leader and opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that democracy seems to be in danger in the prevailing situation while Nawaz Sharif is afraid of rallies and protests despite having two-third majority in the assembly. Talking to media during his visit to PPP media cell in Karachi, Shah said that if the prime mister is afraid of the current situation, then democracy could be in danger as well. “I had warned Nawaz Sharif several times to become a real democratic prime minister,” he said, adding that the democracy is challenged if a single drop of dictatorship is mixed in it. He said that General (r) Pervez Musharraf had treated Nawaz Sharif in the same manner as Nawaz was treating Tahirul Qadri. Nawaz Sharif was not allowed to attend his father’s funeral, he added. He said that Nawaz had got votes of 15 million people but he is afraid of a person who had neither public support nor representation in parliament. “I ask Nawaz Sharif to come out of General Zia’s influence,” he said, adding that Shahbaz Sharif facilitated Qadri for long march during PPP tenure but now he is creating problems for him.
