KARACHI: The army has been called in entire province including Karachi on the request of Sindh government on the occasion of Chehlum to avoid any untoward incident or terrorism.
As per details, there have been serious threats by terrorists of carrying out terrorism in the city by resorting to suicide bombings or bombings through improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
District South Police Chief DIG Abdul Khalique Shaikh said, "We are alert and are also using modern equipment to avert any kind of terror activity."
Trucks loaded with soldiers have left Malir Cantonment and have taken positions in various neighborhoods. The armed forces have been called upon to help the civilian power, under Artilcle-245 of the Constitution.
These troops would be deployed as part of Quick Response Force in the proximity of sensitive areas. "Army soldiers will respond in case of any emergency as the third-line force while the primary responsibility will be with Rangers and police," said military spokesperson. "
MA Jinnah Road has been closed for vehicular traffic, and by erecting barricades and containers all entry points along the central procession route have been sealed.
Residents living en-route the main procession have also been asked not to come to their balconies and the rooftops where police commandoes with snipers have been deployed to keep eyes on the terrorists.
"Besides deployment of the police and Rangers, surveillance cameras have also been installed en-route to the main procession. Modern equipment like vehicle searching systems, bomb locaters are in place, while aerial surveillance will also be carried out to monitor the central procession," said DIG Shaikh.
