Shrine caretaker among 12 killed in violence across city

KARACHI: Twelve people, including a caretaker of a shrine, were killed and three others injured in different incidents of violence in the city on Saturday. Three persons were shot and injured when unidentified armed men opened fire near Nasir Jump in Korangi within the limits of Zaman Town Police Station. They were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment where they succumbed to their injuries.
Zaman Town Police Station SHO, Asadullah Mangi said that unidentified armed bike riders opened fire on the Nazar Shah Shrine near Nasir Jump area. As a result three persons Zakir Hussain Shah (50), Nawaz (45) and Younus (35) were shot dead. He said that Zakir Hussain Shah was the shrine’s administrator.
Separately, two persons, Shakeel (35) and Asif (28) were shot dead by unidentified armed men at Drigh Road along Shahrah-e-Faisal. The bodies were shifted to JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident of firing, six people were killed when unidentified armed men opened fire on Malik Agha Hotel along Super Highway. They were shifted to a nearby private hospital. The identities of the victims could not be ascertained yet.
Unidentified armed men at Bilal Colony in Korangi gunned down a man. The body was shifted to JPMC for an autopsy. 
A youth, Umer (22) was injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire in Junejo Colony, Sohrab Goth. The injured was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment. 
Mehtab (50) was injured when unidentified assailants opened fire in Rasheedabad, Baldia Town. The injured was taken to CHK for medical treatment. Meanwhile, one Asghar Ali Shah (35) was shot and injured during resistance on a robbery bid near Matriculation Board Office in North Nazimabad. The injured was shifted to ASH for treatment.
Meanwhile, Paramilitary Force Rangers on Saturday claimed to have killed an alleged gangster of the Lyari gang war in an encounter at Asfahani Gali in Lyari. According to rangers spokesman, “Rangers personnel conducted a targeted raid on a tip-off in Asfahani Gali, Lyari where criminals opened fire on them, in the retaliatory firing a notorious gangster Umair, alias Saddam, alias Bablu, was killed.”
He said that the deceased was involved in killing seven people and other crimes in the city. “He was affiliated with Jhingo Group of Lyari gang war and weapons were also recovered from his possession,” the spokesman said.
The city police on Saturday claimed to have arrested 92 criminals in 90 different raids and killed an alleged criminal in an encounter in the city during the last 24 hours.
According to Central Police Office (CPO) report, the police conducted 92 raids in different areas of the city. In the consequence of these raids they arrested 24 criminals under Arms Act, 23 under Narcotics Act, proclaimed offenders, absconders and robbers.
The report stated that an accused was killed in an encounter. The police also claimed recovering 30 handguns, one hand-grenade, drugs and liquor from the possession of the arrested accused.
