101 profiteers fined

KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 101 shopkeepers were charged with a fine of Rs 152,000 for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensure that the commodities were sold at fixed rates. He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hikes were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony, Bin Qasim and Korangi. In the crackdown, 39 milkmen, 21 shopkeepers of general commodities, 24 chicken sellers, nine vegetable sellers, seven fruit sellers and one meat seller were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
