KARACHI: After joining Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)’s led Sindh government by Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), all eyes are fixed on slot of opposition leader in Sindh Assembly (SA).Major opposition parties in SA, PML-F and PML-N have started lobbying for the post of opposition leader. However it seems more likely slot will go in favour of PML-F’ and possible candidate could be Nand Kumar as party enjoys majority in opposition benches since MQM left the opposition, sources said.If it works in this way, Sindh would get first leader of opposition from minorities.PML-F has eleven seats, whereas PML-N has eight seats in the House. It is likely opposition leader would come from PML-FPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Khurram Sher Zaman confirmed both PML-N and PML-F have contacted his party, however his party would finalise the support by today.Zaman said, “Yes I see a change in governor’s slot. The reports circulated were revealing there would be change soon.Irfanullah Marwat could be PML-N’s candidate for leader of opposition but I would personally go for Nusrat Sehar Abbasi as she had worked raising major issues in SA, he added.Nand Kumar did not confirm his selection from the party for the post. “Outcome of party’s strategy would only be final once leadership decides regarding the matter,” said Nand talking to Daily Times.PML-N parliamentary leader Irfanullah Marwat said we would consult PML-F and PTI. Marwat said he was not expecting MQM would join Sindh government so early. “I thought it could take one week or more,” he added. On a query he said Nand Kumar was new in parliamentary politics. “He is nominated (on reserved seat). In my opinion opposition leader should be elected representative, Marwat added.Regarding the possible change of governor Sindh, Marwat said merit should be criteria.Any top post does not mean it will fall for people run after it. It should go to a person who qualifies and has competence. I have been elected to this House since 1988, 1990, 1993 and 2002 besides for current assembly, he said. For the post of governorship competence matters, whether it is political competence or administrative competence and I have both, he claimed. In previous terms of Qaim Ali Shah, Aftab Shaban Mirani, Jam Sadiq, Muzaffar Hussain Shah and Arbab Ghulam Rahim I worked in various ministries so I have the experience, he viewed.PML-N Ali Akbar Gujjar secretary information Sindh denied the report there was any change on cards for governorship slot. “There is no proposal at the moment and who is responsible to be considered only our leadership would decide. It is not the formula of Urdu speaking governor and Sindhi speaking chief minister. Our goal is to work and provide relief to the masses, he said. PML- N leader said MQM joining Sindh government was a good sign. One hopes urban population of Sindh will also get its due share in power, he said.Talking to Daily Times, senior journalist and analyst Nazir Leghari said although insiders of PML-N have desire to replace the Sindh governor but problem was they did not have suitable candidate for the post.  PML-N has not a candidate who was acceptable to all ‘stakeholders’, he said.Ghaus Ali Shah and Mumtaz Bhutto might not fit while the current situation demands one who can take all stakeholders with him is suitable. Urdu speaking governor and Sindhi speaking CM formulae was adopted during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s era.
