Six persons killed, another injured in firing incidents

KARACHI: As many as six people were killed while another one received injuries in separate incidents of firing on Thursday.According to police, unidentified gunmen shot dead two persons said to be residents of Nazimabad near La Rosh Restaurant in Nazimabad number 4. They were identified as Zulfiqar (40) and Shakir (35). The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for post-mortem.Unknown assailants gunned down Ibrahim (40) son of Ismail in Lyari near Dhobighat area. The body was brought to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy.Two unidentified people aged between 30 and 32 were shot dead near Cheel Chowk in Lyari. The bodies were shifted to CHK for post-mortem examination.Unidentified killers shot dead an unknown person (30) near Ijtimagah Road in Manghopir area. The body was shifted to ASH for medical examination.A man identified as Athar (35) son of Bahar Ahmed got injuries when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him near Old Muzafarabad Colony Landhi. The injured was shifted to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre for medical treatment.Meanwhile a lady health worker (LHW) and President of LHW Karachi Nasim Akhtar (38) was shot dead by her husband. Police said Munir Ahmed Sheikh shot and injured her in house near Mosamiat on University Road in Gulistan-e-Johar. She was rushed with injuries to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where she succumbed to her injuries. The brother of the victim alleged husband killed her over a property dispute. The lady health workers boycotted anti-measles drive in Sindh in protest against the murder of their senior member Nasim Akhtar.Police claimed killing of two suspected criminals in an encounter in Lyari in the wee hours of Thursday.The police said the suspects opened fire when police stopped their vehicle during snap checking near Cheal Chowk in Lyari. Police said they were killed when police returned fire on them.The police claimed recovery of arms from their possession. The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. The identity of the dead suspects could not be ascertained.
