Women among four killed in city as violence continues

*Three alleged terrorists killed, five others arrested in targeted action

KARACHI: Four people including two women were killed in different firing and violent incidents in the city on Sunday.According to police, a man was shot at dead near Qalandaria Chowk in North Nazimabad. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained yet.In another incident of firing, a 22-year-old youth, was killed by unknown armed men in Surjani Town Sector 36-B. The body was brought to ASH for identification.A 50-yearold woman, Shahmin was shot dead near Sindh Qatar Hospital Chowrangi in Orangi Town. The body was shifted to ASH for a postmortem examination.Separately, a tortured body of a woman was found from Malir Nadi near Qayyumabad area. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained yet.Akram, 22, son of Shahi Taj, was shot and injured at Pir Colony in Orangi Town. The injured was brought to ASH for treatment.Meanwhile, three alleged terrorists were killed and five other arrested in targeted action conducted by Police in Afghan Basti area of Sohrab Goth here on Sunday. However, two people including a woman were also killed in exchange of fire between terrorists and police.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Malir, Rao Anwaar said the raid was conducted at a flat in Afghan Basti of Sohrab Goth on the information about the presence of the terrorists. The police and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) cordoned off the exit and entrance points of area and also instructed the area people to remain in their homes during the operation. The SSP said that during the exchange of fire three terrorists were killed while their other accomplices managed to escape. Explosive material and big quantity of bullets were also seized from the flat. The police also arrested five suspects and recovered weapons from them during the raid, he said adding that the terrorists killed in firing were associated with a banned outfit. Further investigation is underway.The police also claimed to have arrested two alleged bandits and two extortionists from Surjani Town and Lyari in separate raids here on Sunday.SSP Irfan Baloch said that police arrested two alleged dacoits in wounded condition after an encounter in Surjani Town. He said that the arrested criminals were involved in several robberies and street crimes in the city.The SSP said that two pistols with bullets and snatched things were recovered from their possession.Separately, police said that on a tip-off, police conducted a targeted raid in Kalakot area of troubled Lyari and arrested two alleged extortionists. Weapons and extortion money were recovered from the possession of arrested extortionists, police said.
