Mismanagement causing water shortage at tail end, says CM

UMERKOT: Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has said there was abundant water in the irrigation system but mismanagement at irrigation officials level caused the shortage in the tail-end areas of the irrigation network. At a gathering of notables, local political leaders and farmers in village Maanjhakar near here he said his government was taking effective steps to improve agricultural sector for general prosperity of the people. He said instead of Rangers he had ordered police to curb water theft from irrigation network and monitor the water was supplied to the tail-end areas. He emphasised Sindh province should get its due share as per the 1991 Water Accord. CM maintained the issue of drought in Tharparkar was blown out of proportion. Earlier he visited a water-distributory in the area and took briefing from the irrigation officials.
