KARACHI: Unidentified gunmen killed five people in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday, police said. While four suspects were also killed in separate police encounters.
Unidentified shot dead two people aged between 28 and 30 years near Lyari Expressway in Garden area. The dead were not identified as their bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy.
A man identified as Muhammad Tariq (35) son of Muhammed Sheikh was killed when unidentified killers opened fire on him near Alhamd Medical Store in Dastagir Block 16, Federal B Area. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident two unknown people aged between 30 and 35 were gunned down when unidentified assailants opened fire on them near Jodia Bazar at Prethan Square in Kharadar area. The bodies were shifted to CHK for post-mortem examination, police said.
According to police, four accused including 2 gangsters of Lyari gang war have been killed in two separate police encounters in city. Meanwhile, Rangers have taken several persons into custody in Nagan Chowrangi search operation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) Nasir Aftab said a police party on searching for criminals encountered the alleged highwaymen on Lyari Expressway in Garden area.
The suspects seeing police party opened fire on them, police in retaliation opened fire and hit the attackers, he said.
Upon arrival at the hospital the wounded attackers were pronounced dead by the hospital medical authorities.
According to police sources, the dead bodies have been shifted to the hospital morgue for medical examination. Police claimed recovery of arms and looted money from the deceased and said they were getting away with the booty. Police conducted a raid on a tip off in Khardar. When police party reached the site the accused opened fire and later in encounter two accused were gunned down. Police said both were attached to Shairaz Comrade Group of Lyari gang war and police claimed recovery of weapons and hand grenade.
