Glowing tribute paid to Benazir Bhutto on her birthday

KARACHI: Benazir Bhutto was a true leader with a clear vision for the country and nation but unfortunately some forces did not want to let her to complete her mission and always dissolved her government after a short period.This was stated by speakers at the National Conference Benazir Bhutto: A National Icon, organized by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Chair, University of Karachi, in collaboration with Institute of Business Administration on Saturday to mark the 61st birth anniversary of late Benazir Bhutto. Addressing as a chief guest, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said that Benazir Bhutto was a brave leader and during her struggle against military dictatorship, she faced all kinds of hardship but never gave up on her principles.Ziaul-Haq issued schedule of 1988 general election when Benazir Bhutto was nine-month pregnant because the dictator thought that Benazir could not run her election campaign. But Benazir began the campaign only three days after the birth of Bilawal.He said that despite all hurdles, Benazir made her voice reach the public. He urged Sindh government to establish a foundation for researching the struggles of late Benazir Bhutto so that new generation could learn from her life.Senator Raza Rabani said that Benazir Bhutto struggled against military and civil dictatorship throughout her life and never kneeled before them.He said that PPP was the only party which brought revolution in the country, and new revolution could also be brought by PPP as there was no other party in the country having the ability to bring a change.Shahnaz Wazir Ali highlighted services of Benazir for women, children and minorities and said that she had a big vision for revolutionising education and health sectors, but whenever she began practical work, her government was dissolved. Senator Farhatullah Babar, Hussain Haroon, Muhammad Ali Sheikh and others also spoke on the occasion.
