KARACHI: Police on Saturday claimed to have detained the culprits, who were behind the gang rape of a minor girl in Abdul Shah Ghazi Goth.
As per detail, the minor was returning home after buying some items from a nearby grocery shop on Thursday night, when the culprits, taking advantage of a power shutdown, kidnapped the her and later subjected to gang rape.
With the help of the victim, who was admitted in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, "We made the sketches of the culprits," said Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Pir Buksh Chandio. "With the help of the sketches, we were able to trace and arrest the real rapists."
Police arrested three alleged rapists, who lived in the same area. They were identified as 53-year-old Haji Bashir Ahmed, a burger-vendor, Sher Mohammad, 30, a driver by profession and Sultan Ahmed, 20, a general store owner. Victim and the culprits were familiar with each other. The girl has also identified the rapists, officer added.
The officer said that the suspects will be produced before a court on Sunday (today) for remand. "We are also getting their DNA tests done, so as to confirm their involvement, and to make the case more strong," said the officer.
"We have probed the case and will file the charge-sheet soon. It is now upon the court to punish the culprits."
The family thanked the police and media and said, "It was unexpected. We had believed that the culprits will not be arrested ever but our thinking was wrong," said the victim's father. "We appeal to the courts to punish them strictly or to hang them publicly to avoid such incidents in future."
