MQM announces three-day mourning


KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced that it would observe three-day mourning over the death of its MNA Tahira Asif who passed away at the Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore late Thursday night. All organizational and political activities will remain suspended and black flags will be hoisted on all MQM offices during the three-day mourning. MQM activists, close associates and relatives rushed to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital after listening to the news of her death. Several political leaders, including PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Senator Rahman Malik and Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Allama Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri have expressed grief over the death of Tahira and demanded justice to the bereaved family.  Tahira was shot at and injured in Lahore on Wednesday when she was in a car along with her daughter and a servant. Two gunmen riding a bike shot her while she stopped to buy some fruit from a vendor.  Police said the assailants snatched a gold necklace from her and shot at her when she offered them resistance. MQM chief Altaf Hussain has termed the attack on Tahira a planned conspiracy. The MQM has announced three-day mourning over here death.
