JI, ANP oppose move to halt IDPs’ entry in Sindh

KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and the Awami National Party (ANP) have opposed nationalist parties call for halting entry of IDPs in Sindh from North Waziristan.  Talking to PPI, JI Spokesman Zahid said that IDPs coming from North Waziristan were Pakistani citizens and they had every right to travel to any part of the country. He said that JI had not set up any relief camps in Karachi and other parts of Sindh because IDPs coming to the province were residing with their relatives in Sindh.  JI has provided relief goods to IDPs in Bannu and our activists are also providing support to IDPs in Karachi, he said. The spokesman said that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that terrorist could not sneak into the province. Government should take all necessary steps to stop entry of terrorists in the province while it should not stop IDPs entering into the province. Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh General Secretary Younus Bunairi said the government should devise strategy to halt entry of terrorists in the province, however, he opposed any move to halt entry of IDPs in Sindh. He said that it is against the basic right of a citizen to halt his entry into any province.  The people of Waziristan are peace loving, but they were made hostage by a minority group having an extremist mindset, he said, adding that the ANP would fully support the people who had to leave their area due to the operation. He said that ANP had been facing threats from militant outfits on a daily basis but the party would never support the move to halt IDPs entry into Sindh. He said the operation in North Waziristan was not like the Swat one that caused displacement of a very large population. He was of the opinion that only a few people would come to Karachi and it was not a big deal for the government to scrutinize them. He termed the nationalist parties demand to halt IDPs entry into Sindh as political move and said that IDPs were passing through a crisis so the political groups should avoid politics that could increase the miseries of those who sacrificed their livelihoods for the sake of country.
