Karachi operation going on without any discrimination: CM

KARACHI: Human rights of every citizen would be maintained at any cost during the target operation in Karachi. Operation has been started only against the terrorists, target killers, extortionists and kidnapers who were not only challenging the writ of the government but violating the human rights provided in constitution for protection of the citizen ruthlessly through their criminal acts.Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah meeting with the delegation of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) to discuss the Karachi situation in the light of targeted operation launched against the terrorists, target killers extortionist and kidnappers since September 2013said peaceful atmosphere with protection of lives, properties, socio-economic and religious practices and activities were the basic human rights of people and it was the prime duty of the government to provide and maintain it. He said this targeted operation launched by Sindh government with the help of federal government on the demand of people, lawyers, business community, political parties, Parliamentarians and other stakeholders to maintain the law and order in the Karachi.He said this targeted operation was going on with success without any interference and discrimination across the board. He said many accused belonging to different political parties including PPP have been arrested during the operation but PPP government did not interfere in the affairs of operation and fair trial.He said with the result of this target operation the crime rate in the city has considerably reduced and no big incident of terrorism so far has been occurred since last 3 years but we even combated with the terrorists at Karachi Airport with success.He said this operation has caused good impact on the civil society. He said in addition to civil society, the members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry KCCI had always lauded the performance of the Sindh government for controlling the crime.But why KCCI criticised the target operation during the last visit of Prime Minister but simultaneously they supported to continue the target operation. Office bearers and members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry were still lauding the efforts of the Sindh government at large.  Responding to the reservation of HRCP about alleged atrocities of the Sindh Police and Rangers he said we were passing from the war like situation and facing to the terrorist having dens and sophisticated weapons to fight with the people and police.He said in such a situation the law enforcing agencies were not in the position to intimate accused or his parents before arresting him. However, the mechanism was there, under which arrested accused was being produced to the magistrate within the 24 hours and so on.  He ruled out the impression of extra judicial killing and said Sindh Police and Rangers could kill or arrest any innocents intentionally.He said we constantly were convening the meetings to review and monitor the targeted operation. However he invited the suggestion from the HRCP for the redressal of public complaints and said their valuable suggestion would be followed on.The provincial Home Secretary Dr Niaz Abbasi said it was wrong Sindh government has not mechanism to resolve the complaints of citizen in connection of target operation.He said the Grievances Reddressal Committee headed by him has been constituted under the directives of CM Sindh with Secretary Law and Human Rights, Deputy DG Rangers and Additional IG Karachi Police to resolve the complaints of the people against the police or Rangers in connection of target operation.He said police and Rangers have been directed to inform the parent’s immediately after arrest of accused. Besides, legislation against the police crime or irregularities was also in the way.
