Authorities asked to adopt safety steps on boats





KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi has directed the police, Karachi Port Trust and other authorities concerned to take necessary safety, security and precautionary measures on the boats and launches which are boarded by the passengers between Keamari to Manora. The commissioner was addressing a meeting of police, KPT and owners and representatives of boats and launches held at the Commissioner Office here, said a statement on Monday. The meeting was called by Shoaib Siddiqi in view of the reports about the complaints of overloading on the passengers boats and launches which take the people from Keamari to Manora. He directed all the departments and organizations to ensure implementation of precautionary safety and security measures on boats and launches in their respective constituencies to protect precious lives. He directed the police and KPT officials to ensure that no boat or launch be overloaded. He also directed to conduct fitness tests of all boats and launches. The passengers onboard should also be provided life jackets, besides, availability of a diver be also ensured on each boat and launch, the commissioner directed. Karachi Additional Commissioner-I, Muhammad Aslam Khoso, Assistant Commissioner General Shahzeb Shaikh and other officials concerned were also present.
