KARAHCI: Over half dozen departments of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) are without heads of departments, associate professors, professors, assistant professor, paramedical and other lower staff since last three years which has increased miseries of patients.
The reliable sources at JPMC said health sector was devolved into provinces after 18th Amendment about three year ago, but matter of JPMC, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH) was still pending in court and status of hospitals could not be decided so far as Pakistan’s biggest government-run healthcare Centre remained in the hands of federal government.
He said over hundreds of employees, including associated professors, professors, assistant professor, paramedical, staff nurses and other lower staff, had been retired from their posts in last three years and no new recruitment has been made. He said over half dozen units are running without heads and professors like Urology, Medical Ward-7, Eye Ward, Cancer Ward, National Poison Control Centre ( NPCC) and Chest Surgery Ward. The staff has been deprived of their legal perks and privileges like health, deputation and special allowance from last three years, while hundreds of employees were waiting from promotions.
He said uncertainty was prevalent among employees about their future as they are waiting for their promotions and allowances since three years. Many employees are suffering from financial problems. Secretary Health Sindh Iqbal Hussain Durrani, while taking to PPI, said two petitions were filed by JPMC employees that were pending in court. He said if the employees withdraw petition, then provincial government would resolve their issues pending in the courts.
General Secretary Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association (PPMSA) Karachi Division Haq Nawaz Sial , when contacted , said employees were uncertain about their future over delay of case as they had been deprived of promotions, health and deputation allowances past three years. He demanded of the federal, provincial and Sindh High Court (SHC) for early disposal of pending cases in order to end the uncertainty prevalent among the employees about their future.
