KARACHI: The University of Karachi has noted with satisfaction the clarification made by CID Officer Raja Umer Khitab that none of its teachers or students had been found involved with al Qaeda-linked organisation Ashaab.
This clarification, it said, had removed doubts and confusion, if any in this regard risen in the minds of the people about the staff or students of this prestigious instituions of the country after the reports by a section of the media alleging affiliation of the KU students with ‘Ashaab”. The KU further clarified that its security staff so far has no knowledge of the presence of such students or organisation at its campus. More over it added the said CID official has disclosed names of some suspects including a sports teacher of a private university alleging him of heading the “technical wing” of al Qaeda.
After this categorical statement on the part of the said official there should be no furhter misgiving about the persons held as suspects by the law enforcing agencies had any connection with the KU. The KU, despite severe, fragile and highly alarming law and order situation throughout the mega city, has successfully managed to keep its students, who are thousands in number and coming from all parts of the city, engaged in academic and co-academic activities throughout the year, it maintained. The security, administrative and teaching staff of the University always endeavored to keep all its students under strict discipline at the campus. It is however a matter of concern that talented youth are being targeted to be exploited for activities creating disorder and terror not only in the city but in the entire country. Being an educational institution the KU, has always strived to develop the youth into educated and civilized citizens.
