Karachi violence: policeman shot dead, 10 kilogramme bomb defused

KARACHI: Violence in the largest metropolis and financial hub of the country continued as a policeman was shot dead on Sunday. Unidentified gunmen shot the policeman, identified as Wakeel, dead in Baldia No 12.Two more sustained injuries on Sunday in firing incidents in various areas. Karachi has witnessed violence where thousands have been killed in ethnic, sectarian violence, terrorism and target killings. Four people were killed and five others injured in different incidents of violence in the city on Sunday. Thirty-year-old Farhan, a resident of Lines Area, was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Liquatabad near the Sindhi Hotel. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for an autopsy.A twenty-five-year-old man was found dead from Yousaf Goth in Baldia Town. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities.The police said that unidentified armed persons shot him dead in Yousaf Goth. The police also recovered three empty bullet shells at the crime scene. The victim’s identity could not be ascertained.Forty-year-old Muhammad Haseen, was killed by unidentified armed motorcyclists near the Sunday Market in Baldia Town No 12. The body was taken to the CHK for a post-mortem examination.An unidentified thirty-five-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified armed persons in Manghopir. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) medico legal officer (MLO) reported that a fifty-year-old-woman Ameer Zadi, and her thirty-year-old-son Solai Khan and Soomar Khan Korai were brought to the hospital in injured condition from Sector-5/E Surjani Town. Surjani Town Police Station SHO informed that the accused persons of the Korai tribe injured them over personal a dispute and fled. In another incident, two persons, seventy-year-old Muhammad Ahmed Shah, and thirty-five-year-old Muhammad Hussain, residents of Dawood Chowrangi, sustained bullet injuries over resistance during an armed robbery bid near the Awami Markaz Market. The injured were shifted to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment. Separately, 22-year-old youth, Samiulllah, resident of Malir 15 was shot and injured by unidentified armed persons near the Alfalah Society in Malir. He was taken to JPMC for treatment.Meanwhile, a bomb weighing 10 kilogrammes was timely detected and defused in Orangi Town on Sunday, officials said.SSP West, Irfan Baloch said that the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) was immediately called on information of a suspected unclaimed bag found in a rickshaw near Bakra Peri in Orangi Town, which on search produced a bomb weighing 10kg and defused. SSP West said that the bomb was planted in a rundown rickshaw to target the security forces vehicles according to the initial investigation report. In another incident, Landhi Sub-division police after raids and encounters arrested 29 suspects, including robbers, street criminals, and also recovered arms and ammunition, liquor and drugs. The SHOs of Sharafi Goth, Awami Colony and Landhi supervised by DSP Landhi, Rahim Shah launched a crackdown against criminal gangs in their respective jurisdictions. In an encounter near Malir River’s Al-Falah embankment, the Sharafi Goth police busted a gang of alleged criminals and arrested five suspects.
