Administrator seeks joint efforts to curb dengue, naegleria


KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui on Wednesday said that curbing the dengue and naegleria in a comprehensive manner is the joint responsibility of society as this matter is linked to the health of the citizens.He expressed these views while reviewing the steps taken to control dengue and naegleria diseases in a meeting held at Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) building. Metropolitan Commissioner Sajjad Hussain Abbasi, Municipal Services Senior Director Masood Alam, Health and Medical Services Senior Director Salma Kausarm and other officials were also present on the occasion. He said that the government departments were striving to eliminate the dengue and naegleria diseases, while on the other hand, were also creating awareness in public. He urged the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) to ensure cleanliness in their towns in order to prevent the people from diseases.Rauf urged all departments concerned to devise a comprehensive strategy to curb the fatal diseases, in collaboration with other relevant departments. He instructed the District Municipal Corporation officials to ensure the dumping of garbage and its disposal in order to prevent the disease from spreading. He stressed the need for lunching a mass level public awareness campaign to avoid the dangerous viral disease from spreading. He said that the disease could be avoided through preventive measures. He informed that the KMC had started cleansing the swimming pools and conducting chlorination of the water under precautionary measures in the city. Kausar informed that the KMC had started efforts to save infants and pregnant women from the dengue disease. She said that the Sindh Health Department and the World Health Organisation were also assisting the KMC in this regard. She stressed the need of organising seminars, talk shows, and lectures to eliminate dengue and naegleria.
