Karachi: Law-enforcement agencies on Saturday declared jails of Karachi “insecure” as terrorists could attack these places anytime to release their fellows.
According to sources, around 91 terrorists affiliated with political parties and Taliban and involved in heinous crimes were in jails of the city.
Sources said that the agencies have informed the Sindh government regarding the latest situation. They said that a plan has been made to transfer these criminals to Punjab jails to ensure better security.
At least 51 prisoners from different jails of Sindh, including Karachi, will be transferred to Punjab following terror threats to prisons. The prisoners will be shifted to jails of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Sahiwal.
The decision was taken after Kot Lakhpat, Adiala and New Jail Sahiwal were declared safe and secure. Lists of prisoners who will be moved to Punjab have been made. The transfer will take place in phases. The prisoners include target killers, members of banned outfits and militants involved in suicide bombings. Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan Ordinance will also be applied to the transferred prisoners, sources added.
Meanwhile, the trial of high-profile prisoners will also be held in jails. The IGs and heads of jails were informed about the decision.
