Govt takes notice of breaking of KW&SB’s 72-inch pipeline

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Innam Memon has taken serious notice of the breaking of main 72-inch pipeline of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) and sought immediate complete report from the Managing Director KW&SB. The same line was burst for the second time in a month and responsible for breaking would be questioned and accountable. He directed the Managing Director KW&SB to take urgent measures for repair of the damaged pipeline to save the citizens of Karachi from difficulties of water shortage during Ramazan. Managing Director Sewerage Board informed the minister in his preliminary report that due to unannounced load shedding by Karachi Electric, the 72-inch pipeline was burst by back pressure and the city was deprived of million gallons of water. The major cause of bursting of pipeline was the sudden and un-announced electricity breakdown at the pumping station, he reported. On the directives of Minister Local Government, Managing Director KW&SB along with team visited the site. He said the repair work would be completed within 3 to 4 days and during 4 days 50 million gallon of water would be provided to the citizens by the alternate arrangement. MD asked Karachi Electric authorities to notify the timing of power outages and intimate to KW&SB authorities accordingly.
