Govt’s action in Tharparkar appreciated

KARACHI: The PPP Sindh Council has appreciated and approved a resolution in the favour of the Sindh government, especially the chief minister, for prompt and effective measures for the rehabilitation activities and provision of medical facilities in the drought-hit areas of Tharparkar.
A meeting of the PPP Sindh Council was held on Thursday at the CM’s House.
The meeting showed satisfaction over the ongoing relief efforts in the drought-hit Tharparkar desert. The meeting also appreciated Pakistan People’s Party Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for quickly reviewing the situation in Tharparkar and reaching there to show sympathy with the Tharis.
The meeting was informed that relief teams were helping the drought-affected people of Tharparkar.
It was told that besides provision of food, field hospitals had also been established to provide healthcare to the malnourished and the sick.
Chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that the people of Sindh voted for the PPP in the last elections, which showed the popularity of the party among the masses.
He said that the PPP would not abandon the people of Tharparkar in their hour of need, and use all resources at its disposal to provide food items, life-saving drugs and other relief goods to the people of Thar, especially children.
He said so far, 70,000 wheat bags had been distributed in the area. He hoped that the situation in Tharparkar would be normalised in the coming days.
He said that baseless propaganda was being carried out against the PPP. He added that some people were trying to benefit from the present situation in the province but the people would not let them succeed. The chief minister said that the party would continue to work for the masses and solve the problems faced by the people.
The meeting also discussed in detail the arrangements for observance of the 35th death anniversary of founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former prime minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4.
The meeting was told that on April 4, a public gathering would be held at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh where PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari would address the masses.
The meeting termed April 4, 1979, a black day in the history of Pakistan. The participants said it was the day when dictator Ziaul Haq hanged the first elected Prime Minister of the country. They said that by overthrowing Bhutto from the scene, the dictator thought he would seal the impact of Bhutto’s charisma, but the time proved that Bhuttoism would never be sidelined.
