Four killed in violence, Rangers encounter





KARACHI: Four people were killed and one other injured in separate incidents of violence and a Rangers encounter in the city on Tuesday. A 69-year-old woman was killed by unidentified armed men in Jahangir Road No 3. Jamshed Town SHO Inspector Humayun told PPI that the victim was identified as Rita, wife of Fahel. She was targeted by armed motorcyclists while on her way to Fatima Bai Hospital, where she worked as a nurse, he said. The SHO said that motive behind the incident was not yet clear, however, police was investigating the matter. In another incident, two alleged criminals were gunned down in an encounter with Rangers in Nawa Lane area of Lyari. According to Rangers spokesman, acting on a tip-off, the law enforcement authorities conducted a raid in Nawa Lane area of Lyari. The criminals opened fire on the Rangers vehicles and in retaliatory fire, two criminals identified as Atif, 20, and Akram, 25, were killed. The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. Moreover, people staged a protest demonstration in Lyari against the killings in Rangers encounter and blamed the men were earlier arrested and then killed by law enforcers in a fake encounter. Separately, a 25-year-old man was killed by unidentified armed attackers in Ghazi Town area of Malir. According to police, the incident occurred in front of Ghazi Town graveyard on Tuesday night. The victim has not been identified. The body was shifted to a morgue after legal formalities. Unidentified armed men opened fire in Bihar Colony area of Lyari, injuring a 25-year-old unidentified man. He was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
