Sindh govt considering subsidy on flour in Ramazan



 
KARACHI: Sindh government is considering subsidy for lowering the price of flour in Ramazan-ul-Mubarak and possible effort will be taken to keep flour price at Rs 36 kilogrammes. Provincial Minister for Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar presiding over a meeting regarding Ramazan package said the government was considering holding stalls at 28 points of Karachi where the flour would be sold on cheaper rates. Food Department will take action against illegal profiteers with the help of the local administration. He requested all stakeholders to develop a mechanism to curb corruption and illegal profiting in order to get desired results. To provide relief to the poorest of the poor help might be sought from the data of Benazir Income Support Programme and all flourmills will be taken on board regarding Ramazan package. Hussain said due to efforts of Food Department Sindh the flour was being sold on cheaper rates as compared to other provinces of Pakistan. There is no shortage of wheat and flour in the city and Food Department and local administration will maintain working relationship during Ramazan to provide relief to the people of Sindh, he concluded. Secretary Food Saeed Ahmed Awan, Secretary Finance Suhail Ahmed Rajput, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other high officials attended the meeting.
